A once great people were made into slaves
After surviving the Trans-Atlantic slave trade
They endured the sun, not once were they paid
They cried as they often prayed
But retired to death as slaves
Buried with an "X" marked on their graves
Born free, but in bondage they were raised
The life and death of a slave
By death they finally became free
Their life, time, and legacy were lost in mystery
But their struggles were not lost in history
Because their struggles lives in you and me
In hopes that one day we all will truly be free
It still hurt me
When I hear the voice of Martin Luther King
"Let freedom ring, let freedom ring
And might I add "Let freedom ring?
And for us why must freedom be just a dream ???
Oh the days when we were kings, when we were kings
After building pyramids in the sands
We found ourselves Westward, in boudage in a strange land
Where by ... liken to a beast... man rules man
And profit from the fruit of the labors of his hands
Planted fruits that we could not eat
Picked cotton but had no sheets as we would sleep
But this bondage is not for an eternity
As we sojourn in our journey know of a certainty
That one day we the meek shall truly be free
To just be free
